If the control box was removed and you could see how that was done and if you can see where the two cables from the display were plugged in then you could try it yourself. The replacement display is simply mounted like the old one and the cables plugged into the same connectors being careful to install the connectors in the correct orientation. This assumes that the display was definitely at fault and all that is required is a new one.

$74 dollars later....the LCD problem is diagnosed. It seems that
some components came loose off the LCD board. Because the board is
printed circuitry, there isn't a chance of reattaching and the
technician tried to call Yamaha today for a replacement. Yamaha
wasn't open today..."carpet holiday"...what the heck is that?

MIKE - it looks fairly simple plug-in procedure. Do you recommend me
going the distance and having the tech install the new board? I
really hate paying someone for something I enjoy doing....keeping in
mind I have already paid him to diagnose.

will be lighted but no text visible unless you get the view angle
just right and then it is only a "hint" of text. You will need to
have the display replaced. I do not know your technical background
but it is not that difficult - two connectors if I remember correctly
and a bunch of screws to get at it. If you are not confident in this
type of work I would seek professional assistance. If you are in the
Chicago area, I could help you with this but otherwise you will need
some assistance locally. You can order the part as described in my
original post from Yamaha Disklavier technical support. Freddie at
Yamaha technical support can help you with this.
