These programs are not worth the money. They will turn an acoustic piano recording into a crude MIDI file that occasionally resembles the same song in the same key, but they utterly fail to recreate the performance to a degree that would sound pleasant on your Disklavier. Computerized transcription of polyphonic music is a very difficult problem, especially for multitimbral pieces. Piano performances present some serious challenges due to the effects of pedaling and the rapid decay of notes after their initial attack. Even for Zenph Studios, who specializes in the process of converting historic piano recordings into Disklavier performances, it is still a labor-intensive task requiring human perception to make the final leap to a performance that sounds natural and accurate.
