Re: [disklavier] Recording on a MX100A.........

When the DSR1 first came out, it came out in two versions. The first version with limited availability was a self contained unit (DKC500R XG), where you removed the MX100 Controller and the second version was an add on kit with another controller which must be used in conjunction with the MX100 Controller. I have the first version, that is why I have a unused MX100 Controller boxed up

I am a little confused here. ; To my knowledge, you must connect the DSR1 to the MX100A via MIDI cables. I am also assuming that the MX100A is built in to the lid of an upright piano. Therefore, the MX100A is never a stand-alone controller. How did you connect the DSR1 so that the old control box is no longer needed?
Are you sure that you have not replaced the MarkII control box model MX100II, which is a stand-alone box?

I converted my MX100A equipped DKV to the full DSR1 MarkIIXG Controller (DKC500R XG) which was a complete new updated Control Panel (a new black box..... anyone need a MX100A controller?). I do not believe Yamaha sells these full units any longer. You might be able to get the DSR1 update kit which must be used with the existing MX100A Controller (now you would have two black boxes instead of a single black box). The DSR1 update allows you to use HD disks as well as DD disks and allows you to use both the E-seq format and the MAF format to record and playback, as well as many other features. No disk in the drive is required, as mentioned by James Fry.
As to your hibernation problem, have you tried to update your MX100a software? Should be available on www.yamaha.com.

I know that even if you have a DSR1 connected to an older model DKV, you
still need a working floppy drive on the older instrument. In fact, it must
be turned on before the newer DSR1 will work, so I do not know if this will
stop the hibernation of the older MX100A.
