Check out www.edirol.com.  The UM-1 is a great USB - MIDI 
adaptor.  They also have very reasonably [riced sequencers and 
such.  For Windows I hear that Powertracks is good and is 
cheap at $29.  But I use a Mac so have no experience with it.
