Thanks for everyone\u2019s help. I went through the possibilities mentioned and everything checked out. Then I heard back from the makers of the midi player, Rondo: the demo version did indeed impose three-minute timeouts. I paid the very reasonable price for the full player, and now everything works perfectly!
