Root a Ripper had worked fine for me in WIndows XP, never tried in WIndows VIsta. Do not try to see fhe files in the Widows File Explorer it will say that

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
