Two corrupt diskettes! Made backups, looking for two more.

2008-11-12 by Steve Jenkins

In 1996, I purchased a DC5 Mark II with an external XG box, and I
bought a lot of software for it. I got rid of the DC5 a couple years
ago, and have been "between pianos" until my puchase this summer of a
DC7 Mark IV. I recently pulled out all the old 3.5" floppies I had
purchased for my Mark II, and tried to play them on my new piano. All
of them worked great, with the exception of two: Phantom of the Opera
and Mannheim Steamroller Christmas (Special Edition). The last two
tracks on the M.S. Xmas disk won't read, and the Phantom disk is
apparently unreadable by the piano.

I realized that I should have backed up my software a LONG time ago (we
computer geeks have a saying that goes "There are two types of data:
data that is backed up, and data that is waiting to be lost"), so I
decided to take steps to protect the remainder of my disks. I
downloaded Root-A-Ripper, which worked like a CHAMP! It took me less
than 15 minutes to rip an entire stack of diskettes. I now have all of
my old diskettes backed up to my hard drive, and I've also transferred
them all to the "From/To PC" folder on my piano where they can be
played any time.

However, Root-A-Ripper agreed with my piano. It couldn't read the
Phantom diskette at all, and it couldn't rip the last two tracks on the
Mannheim diskette. :(

I have the original disks (I can produce photos/scans of the disks and
covers to prove it), and I'm wondering if anyone else on this list has
either of both of these disks and would be willing to share their backup
(s) with me (feel free to reply privately if you wish). Or, if you have
either disk but don't know how to back them up, I'd be happy to walk
you through it in return for your backup. It really is very easy with
the Root-A-Ripper, and as my story proves, you really should have your
song data backed up anyway!

The part numbers on the disks and their links in the Yamaha Musicsoft
Store are:

Phantom of the Opera: PSP4606 00504606

Thanks in advance for any help!
