Correct,
1. You must be booted up in pure dos for dkvcopy
to work. Running in the msdos prompt window will not work. Windows
NT won't work at all.
2. The target disk must also be a DD 720K
blank. They are rare, but in a pinch you can tape over the extra hole on a
HD 1.44 and reformat it as a DD 720K. I have one target disk that I simply
use over and over again.
3. The copy protection scheme is simple.
The first sector is intentionally corrupted, so dos won't read the
disk. Disklaviers ignore this sector and so does dkvcopy. Good news
is the copy has a normal first sector and can then be read by dos.
4. Best to use hard drive, cd or other media to
protect the backup - not the floppy. Just copy from the copy to the hard
drive. I keep a zip file of each disk I purchase. Periodically I
burn all the zips to a CD in case of a hard drive failure. If you can't
fit all your music on a fraction of a CD, you must be very wealthy!
5. These utils are a great way to make long
playing disks, so you don't have to get up every 40 minutes. Just combine
2 or three disks onto a 1.44 floppy and pop it in. There's room for 2 to
2.5 hours of music.
6. Don't even think about uploading any Yamaha
or copyrighted disks to the vault or exchanging with friends. That is a
crime, plain and simple.

if you restart the computer in MSDOS mode. It will not work runing DOS in
Windows.
