Phil, thanks for sharing your story and your experience. The piano will outlive the electronics -- no doubt. In both the ability to function as well as the obsolesence factor --- the piano will win and the electronics will lose. Given Yamaha's penchant for (a) not sharing information and (b) execssively high prices for replacements, we should tabulate how to replace most if not all parts of the Mark IV. I expect the first two parts to fail will be the Power Supply and the disk drive. Philip has shared a power supply story. Anyone had to replace the disk drive yet? What is a good backup strategy for these instruments? Thank goodness for DKVBrowser and the Virtual PRC -- becuase at some point the actual PRC is sure to fail. It doesn't really work all that well anyway, and once you have the ability to run the DKVBrowser and Virtual PRC from a tablet PC, then I'd never want to use the Yamaha PRC again. --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Phil Blah <phil.blah@...> wrote: > > > Hey Guys, > > Just thought I would let you know that the MK4 uses a standard ATX PSU. > > My Disklavier MK4 would not turn on all of a sudden... stone dead. Funny enough the fuse was blown, this from my extensive computer experience is bad news for the PSU, most ATX power supplies die at some stage....these are also made in China so don't count on them lasting more than 5 years! Anyway so I reaplced the fuse (for a laugh) and it blew with a nice bang haha. > > So anyway, I ordered a replacment PSU from yamaha and as expcted a stupid price of $481 plus 4 weeks wait for delivery... > > I can't live without my piano for that long so I researched the original PSU, and funny enough it's just a standard PC ATX. So my piano is now running off a standard ATX PSU (it looks a bit silly with an extra box haning out etc but it works hehe). > > It's rather weak that Yamaha only give 1 year warranty for 'all electronic parts' and the real piano 10 years... but oh well. > > Cheers, > > Philip > > > Yahoo!7 recommends that you update your browser to the new Internet Explorer 8.Get it now. >
