Our new little swap group is now all of 19 days
old and I thought I would give everyone an update. We now have a grand
total of 46 members. Not a single member has terminated their subscription
to the group.
I have issued many formal invitations to join
our group, some of which have been accepted. For the most part they are
new DUG members, popping up on that board and owners of midi web sites of the
type we like to download from.
If you know people who want to be members, all
they need to do is send a blank e-mail to disklavier-subscribe@...
. If you want a formal invitation, including many details about the group,
e-mailed to them, just privately send their e-mail to me alone at disklavier-owner@eGroups.com and
I will have the invitation issued. Anytime anyone wants to unsubscribe,
they simply send a blank e-mail to disklavier-unsubscribe@...
.
If the e-mail ever becomes too heavy for you,
there are two great alternatives that solve the problem without
unsubscribing. Make use of the Outlook Express Inbox assistant to put them
directly into a separate folder (see my previous posting on the subject)
or notify me personally at disklavier-owner@... that
you want to change how you receive e-mail postings that are sent to disklavier@... . The
default is to receive each individual e-mail immediately but there are three
other alternatives:
1. Receive a daily digest of
postings.
2. Receive a daily summary only of postings.
3. View postings on the message board of the site only (no
e-mail sent to you at all)
A number of people have already made this type of
change.
If the site ever encounters e-mail to your
address bouncing back consistently (usually because your box if full), it
automatically switches you to choice #3. If you find this has happened to
you (I think only one member bounced so far), and you want to change back to
getting the e-mails, just let me know.
My hopes for the future of this group are as
follows:
1. More conversation! After an early flurry, there
hasn't been much traffic. No one is taking advantage of the fact that we
are the owners of the group and not Yamaha, so we can compare prices, deals, and
quality of dealer service at will. How about some discussion of what's in
our vault already. What's great? What sucks? What do we want others
to contribute? What commercial PianoSoft stuff is worth buying and what
are you sorry you bought? A brief word about volume control, try
the veloset utility which is in the dkvutils zip file in the vault. If you
want anymore silly conversation about volume - stick to DUG and get a
life.
2. More contributions. I can't help but feel we are too
heavy with receivers and too light on givers. We all enjoy the vault, but
without givers there is no vault. Everyone should take their four favorite
non-classical, non-commercial floppies they keep by the piano, zip them up in
four zip files and upload them to the vault. Then post your three favorite
URL's in the vault and I will never bug you again on this subject.
That's all for now guys, now let me hear from all 46 of
you!!
