Re: [disklavier] Possiblilities???

2009-10-16 by Carol Beigel

I believe he wanted to connect the two pianos together directly. When you do this without a third controller, there is no way to direct the MIDI. If you load a MIDI file on one piano, it plays on that piano; if you direct it to the MIDI out (presumably to the MIDI in of the other piano), you still have to tell the other piano to receive the MIDI in (presumably from the MIDI out of the other piano).
The only reason I can see to do this, might be to hear the extra XP data generated from the MarkIV on the U1. But I contend you need the 2-in 2-out MIDI interface with the computer controlling the flow of data.

The operating systems have no bearing on the MIDI side of things. If you connect the 2 pianos via MIDI, you could play both pianos at the same time, in real time or have the Mark IV play the U1 using pre-recorded songs (Mark IV in Silent Mode would give you the U1 sound on it's own.) I'm sure others could come up with a whole host of uses.
