I have a Mark III (model DBG1CD) piano that I have enjoyed for a couple years. Now I am attempting to connect it to my laptop so I can use an online piano course my piano teacher recommended. www.PianoMarvel.com
I bought a USB to MIDI cable. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017H4EBG/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
I've successfully connected the laptop and to another electronic keyboard and can use my piano tutorial software just fine.
When using the same laptop, cable and software I can't get any keyboard strikes on my Mark III to register with on the PC.
I've connected both midi cables (out to in and in to out as required). I also went through the manual and set the Yamaha menus to:
Midi Setup
Remote Out
On
Still no response from the PC. My local dealer referred me to Yamaha support.
Am I missing something?

I did discover my flash rom is not current. I have CTRL V5.01 installed vs the update I found online. I'm skeptical that the update will resolve something so fundamental.
This updates the flash ROM in the following
systems to the following versions:
CTRL V5.02, KEY V1.05, and DSP V1.26

Make sure that your MIDI Out setting is set to Keyboard Out. The Remote Out setting is irrelevant to your situation and can be either off or on.
