Re: [disklavier] DKC850 'Specs'

Greetings Ron,

MIDI 1 allows multiple tracks whereas MIDI 0 allows only one track.
Data in a MIDI file is contained in tracks. Data within a track may be
assigned to up to 16 different channels so a MIDI 0 file still has a
lot of capability but MIDI 1 has much more. Not really a problem with
solo instrument MIDI files, in fact it is silly to use type 1 for a
solo instrument. People often do so just to use the track names for
text information.

MIDI 1 files can be converted (with possible loss of data) to type 0
by any number of conversion programs. I wrote one that does one little
thing that others do not do. It converts the track names to text
events which are written to the type 0 file. This is so that files
with track names which contain important information will not be lost
when converting to type 0. this converter can be found on the
following page of my web site.
