Hello Ell Q,

There are a number of things you have to do and set up for the Mac to recognize the Disklavier. I have a Mark 4 Disklavier with the system SW updated to Version 4.0 (via Yamaha IDC on the PRC). The following is a quick summary:

1. USB cable between the Disklavier and Mac must be less than 9' 10" (shorter USB cable standard for slow speed devices). The USB MIDI port is next to the MIDI IN and OUT on the IO Center.

2. Download and install the appropriate USB MIDI driver for your Mac and OS configuration. http://www.global.yamaha.com/download/usb_midi/index.html

3. Under Disklavier Set Up Optiions, MIDI IN and MIDI OUT setup pages, make sure PORT is set to USB

4. Under Mac Audio/MIDI Setup Utilities - go to the MIDI window, click on rescan and the the MAC should recognize a new USB MIDI device. Set the MIDI In to the Disklavier (should be a pull down).

Note: There is no MIDI output if you are using GarageBand.

Again this is a quick couple of things you need to do. You should be able to find more detail steps (if needed) in your user's guide or manuals to help with the process.

Good Luck.

Subject: [disklavier] help please

Im wondering if I can get some help with connecting my Disklavier to my macbook since at the moment my computer doesnt recognise the Disklavier.

I have USB to USB cable running from macbook to I/O center but this doesnt seem to work or at least the Disklavier is not picked up in the audio setup.

Looking on the side of the I/O center there are other ports (midi in/out) and another type which I think is called a BUS?

Am I using the wrong cable/ ports?

I would be grateful for any sugestions you can give.
