Re: [disklavier] MX85 DKC5R 500 ms MIDI Input Delay

2011-01-11 by James Fry

Hi there,

The 500ms delay is there to enable the keys and hammers to start moving early enough such that the hammers strike the keys at the right time. When you play softly the hammer takes a longer time to hit the string from the key movement starting than it does when you play hard. The control unit calculates the relevent delays in this 500ms period.

It is possible on some units (all?) to disable the 500ms delay at the expense of timing and velocity accuracy. I've tried playing my disklavier from a remote MIDI keyboard this way, and it is not a good experience! I now use the disklavier as a controller and for recording only.

I have MarkIIXG disklavier with the DKC500RW controller if this helps (slightly newer than yours). I'm sure someone else will chime in with corrections for your model!

Regards

James

Greetings Everyone,

I have an MX85 Disklavier with a DKC5R control unit that I want to play from a Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ via MIDI. The MIDI input has a 500 ms delay which makes playing in "real time" from the pipe organ impossible. Is it possible to disable the 500 ms delay on the DKC5R? If not, is there another control unit (e.g., DSR1) that would be compatible with the MX85 and would not have the delay?

Thank you very much for your help.
