Re: [disklavier] Re: iPad magic for your Disklavier

2011-07-06 by Spencer chase

maybe the ipad magic will work out but i have a solution for playing from the ipad that i really like. it also works with droid or just about any computer at all. there are a few entries on a blog that i have about it but here is a brief summary. this link is one of a couple (search the blog for more) describing the way i did it with my LX pianos. http://spencersviews.blogspot.com/2010/05/interfacing-to-lx-reproducing-piano.html since then i have installed a small form factor computer as a digital media server for my stereo. i got a great sound card which is also mentioned on the blog. i have an external hard drive with over 25000 (have many more CDs to add in time) audio tracks. i have Media Monkey installed on the computer and also Team Viewer. an audio cable runs through conduit in the walls to the piano (i installed conduit everywhere when i built the house) if the DKV is like the LX, it ignores audio to the channel that does the piano part so i just leave it connected to the monitor output of the amp which them plays the piano by default with the amp off. with the amp on, audio from MM goes to the speakers. if you want to play piano tracks with accompaniment you will have to use different inputs and outputs but most stereos will allow you to make the appropriate connections.

Team Viewer has apps for the Ipad/pod/phone android windows mac etc. i set up a remote connection from any computer to the dedicated little one that runs the piano and audio system. the way i have it (without audio accomp to the piano) i can switch between piano and stereo just by turning the stereo on and off. otherwise you would have to change inputs at the stereo and maybe use different outputs from the sound card. just got the sound card and need to see what the options are for different outputs. maybe the rear channels can be used and switched on and off from a control panel?
