That's an *excellent* suggestion.  Some professional digital audio
recorders have a feature like this enabling journalists doing field
interviews to capture the start of a soundbite even if they're slow on
the draw to press record when their subject starts talking.

I'm not aware of any electronic musical instruments that implement such
a feature yet.
