Re: How to Keep the Songs in Proper Order When Copying

2012-07-29 by nehs1975

Hi George,
Thanks for your suggestion, I tried it but it did not work. The E3 still reads files alphabetically.

What seems to be working is the old but time consuming method of adding sequential numbering on each filename, ie 01.songtitle.mid, 02.mysong.mid, etc.

I also did not bother moving two files from the original smart pianosoft floppy to the USB stick, namely, PDISK.MNG and PSONG.MNG. These files seem to contain the correct order of playback but the E3 does not follow it. The E3 generates its own MNG file called album.mng. It also looks like I can edit this file in notepad but it's too much hassle.

Interesting to note that when songs are played alphabetically, the E3 looks for the correct song in the CD and plays it.

The only downside to playing in alpha order is it does not follow the correct order of songs in the original commercial CD. It's nice to play it this way in case you want to know the song title.

All the best,

Joe

In the old days, if you copied MIDI files to a floppy disk, they showed up on the Disklavier in the order in which they were copied. If you dragged a bunch to the floppy at once, you had no control over the order in which they were copied.
