Thank you.

The problem is that engineers with knowledge of the Disklavier are pretty thin on the ground here! 

Something else I noticed is that if I pull out the phone jack slightly, I can get both sides to work, but it isn't really a solution!

A related question would be, is there a way of permanently selecting one of the 'voices' rather than the setting the box defaults to after booting up?

I'd say (without looking too hard) that you may have a digital problem with your MN circuit board (something wrong before you get to the DAC's). You need to get an engineer to have a look at it.
