Virus warning

2001-12-02 by Todd Muncy

I think the last message sent to the group (with an attachment) from Fred T Brazeil is a virus. The file type is PIF which is quite dangerous potentially. I suggest that Fred let us know what's happening here and that no one open it!! Anyone have a virus checker filtering their email that has analyzed this?

My guess is you were the only one to get that e-mail. Probably 
infected with the W32/Badtrans virus. Check at www.sophos.com for 
more info and how to remove/check your system for these viruses.

Hi!

Thanks for responding so quickly. I will await your comments as this develops. I agree that it would be a shame to have to stop attachments. But, and I think you agree with me, if an e-mail is sent with no explanation as to the attachment I do not dare open it and I think it is good to advice others to follow the same rule.

you to let the group know in a plain text e-mail w/o enclosures or
attachments. I will not open any attachments with reference to this group

Hi!

Thanks everyone for trying to help out. I deleted the e-mail without opening it and then emptied the Trash file. I did get a reference to a free virus scan / delete site from a friend. It did a good job and declared my computer free of any viruses (for the moment).

For anyone in the group who runs in to similar problem I recommed you to try the same medicine. You will find it at the following site:

It certainly is the W32/Badtrans like I suspected earlier.

Check your system, for this is a nasty one. It can be executed in Outlook (Express) without any action on your site.
