Disklavier mark 4

Hello. I have never used a forum. I am hoping someone can help. My m4 is 2006 make. No problems until a few days ago when I put in a cd I get the following error on my palm controller. "the storage media has not been inserted". Meanwhile, nothing will play. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Jim

Hi Jim,

I am sorry to hear about the problem with your Mark IV.  

- Have you been able to play this CD in your Disklavier before? 
- Do you have other CDs you can try? If so, do they give you the same error message?
-You said that nothing will play. Do you mean nothing will play from the CD drive or do you mean that nothing plays from the CD drive and internal memory on the hard drive?

I would agree with Bill.
Try a different CD. If that works, your particular CD seems to be faulty. If you can't play any CDs, try playing something from the PianoSoft library to confirm that the rest of the piano is working. If that's OK, you need a new CD drive. If the piano won't play anything from the PianoSoft library, you have a more complex problem.

Hi Bill thank you for helping me. I just tried another and it shows the same error message. It is only the cd drive that appears to not work. I can still use the floppy and internal memory songs. I just like to listen to cd,s sometimes and play along, etc.

Ok. I just tried another cd and it did not work either. The internal drive songs and my recordings all work fine. Just not the cd .. I suspect you are correct that I need a new cd drive. Is that difficult / expensive to replace? Thank you for you and bills help.

Call your Disklavier dealer and have them contact Yamaha Piano Service about replacing the CD drive. If this is not possible, you can call Yamaha Piano Service directly at 800-854-1569 and talk with either Martin or David about getting the drive replaced.

someone told me i was not supposed to do private questions. I did not understand what that even meant and how i would do that. I just have more questions about my mark 4. Maybe you can point me in the right direction. I just ordered and received a new cd drive, bezel and button for my mark 4. I want to install but need someone to walk me through it. I have been told it is not too difficult and i am mechanically inclined when it comes to those things.

I'm not sure you have the correct part, but I can advise on fitting the FDD kit.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you any sooner, but I had a serious problem with my computer and lost a lot of records (daily back-ups are now implemented). I don't work for Yamaha anymore, but I'm happy to provide advice via email or phone ( if it runs to more than 1/2 hour, I charge £15.00 per 15 minutes but I can talk you through the procedure in one free phone call)
