Disklavier GH1B power issue

Disklavier GH1B power issue

2014-09-17 by Brad Harper

I have the same problem with my Disklavier GH1B as I have seen posted for the MX100 II, it will give me the same message Piano Power Off - (PWM Over)!" and will do the same if you restart it play one or 2 songs and stop did you ever fix the problem with yours thanks in advance. I saw posted a solution:

The power supply have a 20V-regulater (IC2 MJN78M20FA) witch is operated outside of its specification. At the entrance he receives 50V instead of the 40V allowed! Therefore, it switches off automatically.I put a strong Zener diode in series, so that it works with <40V.

Could this be the same solution for my problem, and if so has anyone posted detailed instructions with pictures and parts to fix it?

Thanks for the help... Brad

Hi Brad,

If you can play one or two songs before your piano stops, it probably is not the power supply. My guess is that the problem is a solenoid or the driver board that the solenoid is connected to.

To see if that is the case, do a record/playback test. So, record a song and play each key 5 or 6 times, very loudly. Then play it back and see if the piano quits on a particuler key. Remember the key. Then turn the piano off and then back on and play the song again. If the playback stops again on the same key, then the problem is with the solenoid and/or drive board.

Then do another recording and start going up the keyboard from the key to the right of the problem key. Play up to key 88, then play the song back. This way you can see if there are any problems above the 1st problem key.
