Getting closer - Yamaha says my piano is a Mark II, made towards the end of
the Mark II series and almost (but not quite) a Mark II XG.  So I should be
able to connect the 850 to the piano and NOT use the 100R as a "pass
through" (which would be ideal).

 

The  problem is that the cable that comes with the 850 is 15 pin male on one
end and 15 pin female on the other, and the cable coming out of the piano to
plug into the 850 is 9 pin male. Apparently the conversion cables, even in
the Japanese inventory, have been back ordered for years and my chances of
getting one from Yamaha is slim to none.

 

The Yamaha tech referred me to a PDF for the cable but it does not appear to
have the pinouts on the PDF.

 

Any ideas?
