DKC100R error message?

DKC100R error message?

2014-10-17 by Jon Arnold

For now, I have given up on trying to make the DKC850 work with my piano, so
I am back to the 100R.

But now (and this might have been a big part of the problem in trying to run
the 850 through the 100R, per my Yahama dealer's suggestion), it plays for a
couple of minutes then a message appears on the display as the music stops
that says:

Piano Power Off! (01:55)

(PWM OVER) _ ESBL

That is pretty much verbatim. The guy that came out from the Yamaha dealer
(*NOT* a disklavier tech) said that it sounds like there is a problem in the
power circuitry INSIDE THE PIANO, as opposed to inside the 100R.

Can anyone clarify or make suggestions?

It sounds like a power supply problem. You probably need a new one.

Power supply in the piano, not the control unit itself.

It may also be due to a fault around the key/pedal solenoids which causes the key/pedal drive supply to shut down. ( Sticky or dirty solenoid, solenoid drive transistor breaking down when it gets hot or calibration problem).

Not DKV exactly, but I'm curious about this: My brother (who gave me one of his DKVs), bought an NU1 last year. He told me it was out of tune when he got it - which seemed impossible to me as its a sampled piano with an acoustic action. He has perfect pitch, so I assumed he was just super-sensitive to non-perfect samples.

Yamaha sent a tech to his house, who said "the sensors were dirty", and repaired (cleaned?) them.My brother reports the piano now sounds totally different, pitch is perfect.

My question - what do sensors have to do with pitch? I can see volume/velocity issues, but pitch? I'd appreciate any explanation or ideas.

I just recently acquired a 1994 Mark II and it also has the PWM OVER fault code, and will not even play a note. The control system and display panel work fine.I obtained a copy of the service manual which shows how to do an easy diagnostic check of all the error codes stored on the system. (just like a car) You can read the codes and the number of instances each fault code was triggered. Anyway, it pointed to the power supply, as others have pointed out. I have an upright, so I removed the lower panel and the power supply is right there. I instantly noticed a bulging capacitor and leaking fluid, so that tells me the power supply either needs to be replaced or rebuilt. My local piano dealer is sourcing one from Japan, but I am certain it can be rebuilt easily stateside, with new components to replace the aging ones.
