Hi, We just got a new Disklavier with the 16 MB memory upgrade. In reading the instruction manual I cannot find information on how to copy my diskettes to memory disk and organize them for easy retrieval. With 16 MB you can store a lot of songs but finding them could be a challenge. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Pat

Thank you for such a quick reply. I did not get the "EMK1 Extra Memory Kit Operational Manual." I will have to go back to the dealer. I am assuming that since you said that you purchased a 16 MB memory upgrade that you are working with a Mark II disklavier. The EMK1 memory upgrade kit allows you to store 1 MB of music files in each of 16 memory slots that are named by Yamaha 0-9 and A-F. (Memory architecture in Mark II units is slightly different and allows approximately 1.42 MB of music to be stored in each slot until a total of 16 MB has been stored.) Loading the songs one at a time into each memory is easy (albeit tedious). Simply press the "Function" button on the front of your disklavier's control box, and use the left and right cursor arrow buttons to navigate to the Song Copy function. Press "Enter" and you will then be able to select the memory slots and the song that you wish to copy into memory from the floppy disk that you inserted in the control unit following the prompts on the LCD of your control unit. You can also copy entire disks at once to memory using the Disk Copy function. As far as keeping track of what has been stored in memory, I have found that a convenient way to do this is to prepare an Excel spread sheet that lists all of the songs in each memory slot along with the song number in that slot. Using this, it is an easy matter to navigate to the song you are looking for in the memory. Of course, the Excel spread sheet can be sorted and printed out in any number of ways. For example, you may wish to print out the Excel spreadsheet of your memory contents organized by musical type (classical, popular, etc.) or by artist. All of these things can be done if you prepare the spreadsheet with the appropriate columns of data and then use the sort feature. Tom

Hi Tom, Thank you for the information. It worked perfectly. Thanks too for the idea about using an Excell spreadsheet to track the conents of each "disk". Have a Happy Holiday!
