making upgrade floppies

Hello All, I am looking to upgrade OS on a clients DMC 100. Can I make floppies to do this on a usb floppy drive. I have read that I must use computer with IDE floppy drive but I am hoping this pertains to music files only. Thanks for any help in advance.
