Severe lag

Severe lag

2017-11-13 by Stephen Alston

Hello,

I’m experiencing a severe lag after issuing play and stop commands from the PRC-100. For example, I want to play March from the PianoSoft Library.

After selecting the song, I hit Play on the PRC-100 controller. Forty-two seconds later, the Disklavier2 Mark IV begins playing the piece. I issue the Stop command. Thirty seconds later, it stops playing. I experience the same delays when playing pieces from the USB stick.

Not sure if its related, but it appears the firmware in the PRC-100 is significantly out of date. The screen says its too old.

Any ideas on what’s causing this?

Thanks,

Steve

Good afternoon, everyone.

Steve, I have not experienced this problem, but I can offer the first level of trouble-shooting.

I recommend that you plug your Disklavier into your home network (if not already connected) and update the Disklavier’s firmware.

Then, there is a second, important step, that many forget: Update the PRC-100.

When you do a Mark IV update, one or more update files for the PRC are installed on the Mark IV hard drive. The 2nd step in this process is running the PRC app that updates the PRC itself. During the PRC update, the PRC grabs these files from the Mark IV.

Thanks George,

That sounds like a very good place to start. Is this an upgrade over the Internet? The last one I did was with the physical media ( CD & Floppy) from Yamaha.

That was Update Ver 3.0 Build 1.

Can you point me in the direction for instructions on performing the update?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

I believe that the Mark IV is currently using 4.x of the firmware. At this time, most people update over the Internet.

Mark IV manual is available here:

http://yamahaden.com/resources-2/item/332-mark-iv-pro-and-standard-manuals <http://yamahaden.com/resources-2/item/332-mark-iv-pro-and-standard-manuals>

The advanced operating manual has information on p. 102.
