Source for MX80 parts

2018-05-29 by crumhornx@...

Hi,

I'm in New Zealand and have an MX80 Disklavier with a burnt out solenoid and a couple of electronic components that need replacing. Is there a good reliable online vendor that sells components for older Disklaviers? I found Tap Electronics www.tapelectronics.com and they list the parts I need but they haven't responded to my messages. I've also tried contacting the local Yamaha distributors but they haven't responded either. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That would be amazing. Thanks!

I'm after a key solenoid and a "YM3421" PWM generator chip as shown in the pics attached. There seem to be different color solenoids which might mean they are different ratings but I'm not sure. The yellow one in the pic is what I'm after.

I'm more than happy to pay for these items if you have them.

I guess the solenoid overloaded as a result because the transistor array TH3L20 or diode 11ES4 was broken.
YM3421 is rarely broken.
If you have not done it yet.I guess you'd better check Tr array and Diode on drive board.

Yes. TH3L20 has also gone but I have managed to find a replacement. The diode is fine. Only one output on YM3421 seems to have been affected (its 3.3k resistor has literally burnt out too)

You seem to know about these things. so I'll ask a question if you don't mind:

The PWM generator YM3421 just doesn't seem to be available anywhere but a chip called a YM3421-F is available. According to a service manual for a newer Disklavier This chip appears to have all the same functions as the old one but just different pin outs. Do you know if this will work if I simply re wire the pin numbers?

Wow!! It's too bad.

YM3421 is Dip IC but YM3421-F is QFP. (pin No, see the attached file).
It seems difficult to use alternative.

I asked Yamaha but YM3421 is out of stock.
But I/O board and Solenoid coil have stock.
The new parts price is 30000 Jpy and 900 Jpy.
My used stock price is 10000Jpy and 300 Jpy.
(shipping charge extra)

Please ask to your near Yamaha again.

Hi tnmshd,

Its taken a long time. I have sourced some replacement solenoids but the Yamaha person here has told me that the MX80 I/O board is "Nil Stock, No longer available, No substitutes available"

Can I ask where you got your information and if it might be possible to purchase and have it shipped to New Zealand?
