Macintosh micrologic USB Midisport to MX100MR connection - Help!

2002-05-02 by choton007

Hello, I am trying to get my disklavier to send/receive MIDI, but
something is not set up right. I am running Micrologic on Macintosh. I
am using the Midisport 1x1 USB adapter and have the cables set up
properly ((?)-Midi Out on piano to Midi In on computer and vice versa
for the other cable).

Hitting the MIDI button on the piano starts up the "MIDI setup mode"
but I am not sure what to do from there. The computer doesn't
recognize any signal in/out of the piano.

Any help would be appreciated. I am completely new to the world of
MIDI, but can otherwise perform whatever I need to on the computer...

Thanks in advance!

I'm afraid I'm going to be more of a kibitzer than helper--the only
device I have in common with yours is the Midisport 1x1 USB adapter.

I'd suggest a divide and conquer approach. See if you can get data
flowing to the DKV first. Connect just the MIDI-out from the computer
to the MIDI-in on the DKV. The Midisport MIDI-out light should be out.
Now operate whatever application you have as a sequencer and send a song.

If a) the Midisport MIDI-out light does not begin to flash, you are not
putting out data. In that case, recheck your Midisport installation and
make sure that the sequencer knows that the Midisport is selected for
MIDI output.

If b) the MIDI-out light is flashing, you are putting out data. If the
DKV isn't responding, it is probably because the DKV's "Channel in"
number does not match the channel number of the data you are sending.
Apparently you don't have a Mark II DKV, as my Mark II does not have a
"MIDI" button. However, if pushing that button leads you to the "MIDI
Setup" menu, then you are on the right track. Either read your
instruction book or experiment with the menu until you locate the MIDI
in channel selector. Twiddle the knob until you get music.

Like getting olives out of a bottle, after the first one, the rest come
easy. Once you get the DKV playing, I'll bet you can figure out how to
make data flow the other way.

The basics of MIDI are pretty simple. The next time you are in a
bookstore you might want to look for a book on it. You can probably
absorb all you need to know right there in a few minutes.

Good luck.
