GIRL FROM IPANEMA

GIRL FROM IPANEMA

2002-08-02 by ecco dadolphin

Hello,

Shortly after joining this group, I downloaded the Jazz_Trio Files, and tried them out. The ComRain was nice, the opening bars kind of reminded me of the Girl from Ipanema.

Anyone knows where I could find "The Girl from Ipanema" midi file ?
I don't think it's ever been posted on this group either.

No offence, but I found that link quite useless. The song is there,
but I was unable to download the midi file despite repeated attempts
( this after having to install a QuickTime Plug-In which took about
10 minutes to download )
Here's another one I found:

http://www.cam.hi-ho.ne.jp/leeloo/ipanema.html

I could download the midi easily here, but the arrangement is really
lacking. Not at all what I was looking for... :(

Just Have to right click on player to download the midi file.
Put in files section if you want it.

Here's how it works on my PC: left click on the dot to the left of the
song; a new window with a player appears; right click on the player; a menu
appears; choose "save as"; a "save as" window appears; either accept the
file name or type in other file name with ".mid" extension; choose "save in"
destination for the midi file; click OK. Admittedly cumbersome and, of
course, it may not work that way on your computer.

Re: [disklavier] Re: GIRL FROM IPANEMA

2002-08-05 by Michael J. Ryan

Because everybody's computer, midi player and operating system is different, I can only tell you what works on mine. Having said that, here are a couple of suggestions. I hope this works for you.
If you are able to hear the midi file play, that means it has downloaded to your Temporary Internet file. Go to C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files, left click on the Type file, scroll down to the Midi Sequence files and see if you find the file you want. Then copy and paste it where you want to keep it.
Or go to Start/Find/Files or Folders, click the Advanced tab, click the down arrow to the right of the "of type" box and choose Midi Sequence in the drop down menu, click the Date tab, choose Find All Files, choose Created, choose During the Previous, choose 1 Day, click Find Now. You should see a list of one or more midi files. Right click on the midi file you want in the Name column, then copy and paste the file where you want to keep it.

Re: [disklavier] Re: GIRL FROM IPANEMA

I have copied the file to my computer and then to a floppy. When I try to
play the file on the disklavier it shows no information and will not play.
Directory information shows there is information on the floppy. I had no
problem transferring and playing the yamaha competition finals. Any help?

Thanks,

Steve

One more thought. Go to Start/Find, Name & Location tab and type in the name of the song and click Find Now. You might find the midi file this way. ; This will not work if the name of the midi file differs from the name of the song.

Re: [disklavier] Re: GIRL FROM IPANEMA

2002-08-05 by Chine-Chine Wang

Since you were able to play the e-competition files, it looks like it is
NOT one of these common issues (listed in case someone else is also
troubleshooting):

   1. Floppy type and formatting (older Disklavier control units only
take double density floppies, which need to be correctly formatted as
720k).

   2. E-Seq/SMF 0/SMF 1 file formats (the earliest Disklavier models
only support E-Seq, SMF types 0 and 1 were subsequently added for later
models - MarkIIXG and newer can handle all three).
***If your unit can play E-Seq but not SMF, or can play SMF 0 but not
SMF 1, there are programs in the group's file vault that can do the
conversions.

So the following is the most probable cause (in Steve's case):

   3. The file you are trying to play does not have the piano part(s) in
channels 1 and 2.

There are at least two ways to resolve this and enable you to play
the file on the Disklavier:

      A) Use a software sequencer (i.e. any MIDI editing program on your
computer) to change the piano to channel 1 or 2, you may also need to
move other instruments out of those two channels.

      B) Set your Disklavier control unit to play piano parts found in
all MIDI channels - this works very well but the steps are a little
involved. Since your Disklavier model may operate differently from
mine, refer to your manual on how to do this.

Good luck!

It might depend upon which model of Disklavier you have. Some models only
play ESEQ files, and some play both ESEQ and MIDI.
