Looking to buy an older disklavier for my mother,a 1997 MX80..upright,,,does not have XG tone generator. saw two options to add.. a KMU50 or a DSR1...what would be the best/most economical to use?...i want to be able to have it play the same files as my MKII baby grand I own....thanks in advance...

Both units have essentially the same sound set. However, the DSR1 has its own control unit that supports Standard MIDI Files as well as high density disks. Those two features have been such a standard in the music and computer industries for so many years, that I think that your mother may find her Disklavier to be crippled without them. If she only purchases Yamaha-published software, she may not notice the need for these features right away. But sooner or later, I bet she will find the need for them. Regards, PianoBench
