QRS CDs

QRS CDs

2003-01-17 by archstl <armyusa@aol.com>

I have a MX100A with a DSR1 and a CDC1 hooked up to it so I can
pretty much have it play anything. I have a QRS catalog and was
wondering what CD's of QRS would play on my set up. Anyone know?
Their catalog mentions that the floppies for Yamaha begin with the
number 600,000 or 660,000 Says nothing about their CD's playing on
a Disklavier. Thanks.

I think QRS CDs will play on this setup. I would buy one CD and try it out.
The only reason to put MIDI files in a CD is to have audio play along with
them. The QRS floppy disks for DKV have the pedaling information on a
different track. QRS files don't have incremental pedaling - just on/off,
and I believe they don't have dynamic range either - the velocity is set to
64.

Why not ask QRS first? You can e-mail QRS at info@...

BTW, the note velocity range of the QRS MIDI files that I have seen tend
to be a little high, but they do have dynamic range . . . the note
velocities are not all set to 64. The sustain pedal on the files I've
seen are indeed on/off. The sustain pedal on many, particularly older,
PianoSoft diskettes are also on/off. (For example, Steve Allen, "Things
My Heart Tells Me".)

Some good reasons to put MIDI files on CDs: CDs should last with little
risk of corruption, they are cheaper than diskettes, and have plenty of
capacity.
