Advice for midi card for my pc

Advice for midi card for my pc

2003-01-25 by don8885253 <don@firstsol.com>

I recently purchased Cakewalk and now need to buy a card
and cable so I can connect to my MX80. Any advice would be
appreciated. I'm a PC user running XP. Am currently listening to
music through a game card that has no midi connectors.

Thanks to all for the great information I have received from this
group in the past.

There are a lot of options. Here are two:

A. If you have a desktop computer, replace the sound card with another
sound card such as a Soundblaster. (You may need to purchase separately
the joystick interface cable which includes the MIDI connectors.)

B. If you have a USB port, add a Midiman 1X1 interface.

Good morning, everyone.

Although your game card does not have MIDI connectors, it will work with a
joystick/MIDI adapter if it has a joystick port. These adapaters also have a
pass-through connector for additionally attaching a joystick. The
joystick/MIDI adapter makes use of MIDI drivers that should have been
installed at the factory along with your game card.

The adapter has one MIDI In and one MIDI out connector at the other end.
Determining which one to connect to the Disklavier's MIDI In and Out ports is
not always obvious, but trial-and-error will provide a solution.

Robert's suggestion of a USB MIDI interface is also a good one. Yamaha makes
a nice one called the UX16. It has one MIDI In and one MIDI Out connector. It
comes with a USB driver for you to install. A slightly fancier model is the
UX96 with has one MIDI In, one MIDI out, and one To Host serial connector.

The Yamaha interfaces also work with Macintosh System 9.x and below (assuming
that you have USB). Thus far, there have been no drivers made for OS X.
