Midi sequencing software for Disklavier

Midi sequencing software for Disklavier

2003-08-02 by tillsbury2000

Just thought I'd share a recent discovery. I've always been looking
for sequencing software that is useful for piano solo (correcting my
terrible Disklavier playing, mostly). I used to use Voyetra SP2 and
then MasterTracks Pro around 15 years ago (which is still happily
working on Windows XP, amazingly). But I've just spent some time
downloading a load of demos and shareware software looking for
something different, and have found MIDI Maestro, which stands head
and shoulders above the rest for this kind of work.

Most of the others concentrate on WAV files, "jamming", and weird
effects. And loops, which don't exactly relate to Beethoven as a
rule.

Midi Maestro's ace in the pack is the very impressive live notation
display, showing several tracks at a time (if you've recorded in
parts), and allowing live editing of the score by dragging notes
around. All the usual stuff is there (and so is a piano roll for
the times when that's better), and it's pretty easy to access.
Keyboard shortcuts for everything speed up editing no end.

Minus points, it's $50 shareware (but it's pretty nag-free and fully
function for 15 days), it gets confused by trills, accidentals, and
anything smaller than a 64th note (although obviously the piano roll
view is fine for this).

But otherwise I found it good enough to hand over the credit card
for, which is more than I can say for around twenty other programs
I've just tried out.

Hope this helps someone....

Regards

"Mastertracks Pro"? What a flashback .. love it ... had it on
my Atari composing/home studio set up 15 years ago as well ...

How does one get their hands on Windows 2000 version? Currently
using PowerTracks but would love to have MasterTracks Pro as
well!

THANKS.

Sorry, not the foggiest idea. The last upgrade I got from Passport
was around 1991ish? I'm fairly certain they went phut soon after
that. I wonder who now owns the software?

If you want a flashback, try the newest Voyetra offerings. The
hoary old Sequencer Plus stuff is still painfully visible in the
current incarnation. I'm constantly amazed how long companies can
keep old software going after the author has disappeared...

Just had a look on google and came up with this link to Passport Designs:
http://passport.room101.co.uk/

However, if the html source is to be believed, the page hasn't been
touched since 1997 :o
