Good morning, everyone.

Pardon my ignorant question, but are the files from the 2002 e-Competition still available?
Yes. Go to the main page of the website:
http://www.piano-e-competition.com/
then click on 2002 Highlights. At that point, you can navigate to each semi-finalist's contest page as well as to an additional page that contains one piece from each of 5 finalists who participated in the winners' gala concert.
Please note that in 2003, all performances were recorded as Enhanced SMFs. The pieces were posted as individual links. There are now .zip file collections on the site for 2002.
I have downloaded the 30+ available from 2003, but never saw the 2002 ones.
I hope to make the time later this week to download the newly available 2004 preliminary round performances.
I LOVE the 2003 ones.
Just so everyone knows: this is a a bi-annual competition. The first competition took place in 2002. The current competition is the 2004 competition. The 2004 competition has a Disklavier screening round that is new. These screening round performances which we have been discussing were recorded in December 2003 but are part of the 2004 competition that concludes in June 2004.
The 2004 (Dec. 2003) Disklavier screening round had 53 participants and yielded 24 pianist who will be invited to the next round. That group will compete in Minneapolis in late May. That number will then be reduced to 9 and then 6 contestants in early June.
You can find a schedule on this page:
http://www.piano-e-competition.com/dates.htm
The Disklavier will not be used as a tool for judging during the rest of this particular contest, but all performances will be recorded on a 9-foot Disklavier Pro concert grand and posted on the contest website. I hope that we will have a proceedure down by that time in which we can bring these performances to you much more quickly that we did in this round.
Regards,
PianoBench
