Upgrade a DKC 500R XG

Upgrade a DKC 500R XG

2004-04-06 by mark.carline@btinternet.com

I am considering buying a Disklavier MX1 XG piano that comes with the
above control unit and I jut wondered if anyone has any ideas if the
control unit can be upgraded to a better version and if its worth doing
or not.

I wondered if anyone has a list of what kind of features these units
have, inc what the CD does in some of the high end versions

Thanks

Mark.

I don't recall if this question was answered.

The basic answer is "no," but the ultimate answer is "sort of." You cannot replace your control unit with another, but you can add a DCD1 to your piano. This would give you a CD drive with most of the features that represent the difference between your Mark IIXG instrument and the current Mark III series.

In addition, you can add an additional memory board to your control unit that will enable it to:

(1) work interactively with the DCD1 so that you can play floppy disk recordings that coordinate with commercial audio CDs

(2) use the new MIDI Time Code feature to make Disklavier recordings that coordinate with video recordings that you make simultaneously. (This feature requires the use of an additional piece of hardware that can generate and decode both MTC and SMPTE.)
