Have any of you experienced a problem where a MK III disklavier was playing at too loud a volume on the minimum setting? If so what did you do about it? Is this a rare issue? Thanks, Ed Hutton

Sometimes folks complain that the piano plays too
loudly. This especially happens when the piano is not sitting on
carpeting. The piano sound coming from the strings can only be a soft
as a person sitting at the keyboard can play.
On a MarkIII Disklakvier, you have the option of
putting the piano in Silent Mode, then using the volume control from the tone
generator. This works just like your stereo amplifier; however the piano
sound you hear is a tone-generated piano sound and not the piano sound coming
from the strings and soundboard.
Sometimes voicing the hammers (softening the felt)
can mellow out a piano, and sometimes doing a very precises key by key ppp
adjustment can help. Also, I have found that using a 2-layer sound
absorbing foam baffle system works well on hardwood, tile and stone
floors.
Of course, you can always go into the MIDI files
that generate the data that makes the Disklavier play and edit the controller 7
messages. Or use a program that turns down the volume by a percentage -
especially useful on files that have ensemble accompaniements to the piano key
generated data.
You have a whole new world of learning and fun
ahead of you. I can't thinks of a more versatile happiness generating
machine than a Yamaha Disklavier!
