different tracks on midi files

different tracks on midi files

2004-10-10 by Spencer Chase

Greetings Bob et. Al,

Depending on the structure of a particular MIDI file, many things can
be done to rearrange the track, channel and patch relationships to get
various parts to play or not play etc etc.

A type 1 file can be converted to type 0 (GNMIDI dos this and other
functions very well.) which will merge all tracks into one. Then it
may be possible to switch patch and channel assignments to make the
piano play the way you want. It all depends on the patch and channel
assigned to the parts in addition to the track assignments. There are
an unlimited number of ways to make a MIDI file so it is not possible
to be specific about what is needed without seeing the actual files.

I have a utility called MIDIMOD2 that can be used to change channel
and patch assignments in ways that may be useful. The program can be
downloaded from the download pages of my web site, whose URL is in my
signature below. I can also make custom programs for needs that can
not be met with available programs.
