What is a Yahama MX1?

What is a Yahama MX1?

2005-02-10 by jeff_paddock

I have just purchased a Yahama MX1 PE with a DSR1. I have not been
able to find out exactly what an MX1 is. Is there another description
for the above configuration? Also, there is a large cable coming from
the lower right rear of the piano with a 15 pin male connector. What
is this cable used for?

Jeff,

I find this a little confusing as the Yamaha MX1 does not require a
DSR1.

The Yamaha MX1 Disklavier piano comes with its own Mark II XG
control unit, the DKC500RW XG. The , DKC500RW XG provides all the
capability found in the DSR1 plus a lot more!

The DSR1 unit is a product offered by Yamaha for upgrading older
Disklavier models that originally were provided without many
features found on newer models (3.5" disk drive, tone generator,
etc.)

The DKC500RW XG contol unit for your MX1 provides:
- piano playback and recording capability
- 3.5" disk drive (support for both 2DD and 2HD disks) for playback
of Standard MIDI Files (SMF type-0 and type-1) and Yamaha E-SEQ
music files
- data storage on internal 1MB memory disk or 3.5" disk media
- internal tone generator (Yamaha's XG format, GM format, TG format)
- connectivity for MIDI In/Out, audio output, MIDI interface, etc.
- controls for volume, transpose, metronome
- various utility functions including Disklavier calibration, disk
formatting, song/disk copying, song/disk titling, song/disk
conversion
- 24-character X 2-line LCD
- etc.

The 15-pin cable you refer to plugs into the back of the DKC500RW XG.

If you purchased a used MX1, perhaps the DSR1 was being provided as
a replacement for a missing DKC500RW XG. If this is the case, you
should contact Yamaha, as you really should have the proper control
unit for your piano. If the DSR1 was provided in addition to the
proper control unit, you could always sell the DSR1 on eBay, etc.

Jeff,

I just realized that you also indicated that you're not clear on
what a Yamaha MX1 is.

In addition to being a fine upright piano, the MX1 belongs to
Yamaha's "Disklavier" line of pianos. Simply put, the Disklavier is
the modern version of a "player piano".

More information can be found on your MX1 at:
http://www.yamaha.ca/content/piano/products/disklavierpianos/disklavi
eruprightpianos/MX1/keyfeatures.jsp

Alternately, from your web browser type: www.google.com
Do a search on: Yamaha MX1

I recommend that you visit your local Yamaha dealer who can quickly
get you up to speed on the wonderful capabilitieds of the Disklavier.

Regards,
