We have one of the orginal disklavier grand piano's with the rolling cart, is the anywhere on the internet to get music for this unit. We are new to this club and would be interested in exchanging programs. I know it does not accept midi files. Any info would be appreciated.

But I assume that all DKV's will play yamaha's proprietary esq files. In the vault here ia a program(dkutil??) that allows you to convert midi files to esq files(I have yet to use it). This will likely all you to play all those midis on the internet on your model. suresh

You can purchase a very nice, reasonably priced utility program from www.giebler.com that converts MIDI files to a format that plays on your old Disklavier. Here are the steps to producing your own Disklavier E-SEQ
format diskettes using a Microsoft Windows-based PC. It's a
hand-holding guide to get you going. This is targetted at owners
of older-model Disklaviers (the ones that can't handle MIDI files).
You'll need to purchase Double-Density (DD) diskettes for
your older-model Disklavier. DD diskettes can be recognized
by the single write-protect hole on the side of the diskette
(which should be covered to allow writing). An HD diskette
has two holes (one for write-protecting the diskette, the other
for identifying it as an HD diskette). An HD diskette usually
has the letters HD engraved or printed on the diskette. There
have been a number of suggestions that you shouldn't use an
HD diskette in your older-model Disklavier. Of course, if you
have one of the newer models then HD may be fine. Check
your owner's manual.
Using your favourite web browser...
(1) Go to http://www.egroups.com/list/disklavier/info.html
(2) Click "Files" in the left column.
(3) Scroll down until you find the "Utility Programs" folder
and click it.
(4) Click the "dkvutils.zip" entry. This should start some sort of
download.
Save the file to disk and then unzip it to a folder (e.g., C:\dkvutils).
You'll find the following items in the folder to which you unzipped
the files.
dkvcopy.exe
dkvutils.txt
EEXPLORE.EXE
ESEQ2MID.EXE
MID2ESEQ.EXE
Veloset.exe
The ones that you need are MID2ESEQ and EEXPLORE. The
TXT file contains some helpful information on the programs.
Let's say that you want to put ROCK01.MID on a Disklavier
compatible diskette. Here are the steps.
(1) Place a new, unformatted DD (double-density) diskette in
your PC's diskette bay (I'll assume that's drive A: from here
on).
(2) Start up a DOS/Commmand Prompt window.
(3) Use the FORMAT command to format the diskette
FORMAT A:/F:720
The idea is to end up with a diskette format for 720KB
(730112 bytes) of data. If your version of FORMAT doesn't
accept /F:720 try /N:9/T:80 (9 sectors, 80 tracks).
(4) Use MID2ESEQ to convert your midi file to E-SEQ format.
MIDI2ESEQ rock01.mid
This will result in an E-SEQ format file called ROCK01.FIL.
(5) Run EEXPLORE.
EEXPLORE
This will bring up a the E-SEQ Explorer program and the
Browse for Folder window. Select the diskette drive (A:)
and click OK.
(6) The window that is displayed will show a PIANODIR.FIL
folder with a red X through it. Right click on the folder name
and choose "Create Index".
(7) Go back to your DOS/Command Prompt window and
copy ROCK01.FIL to the diskette.
COPY ROCK01.FIL A:
(8) In the E-SEQ Explorer window, right click on the
PIANODIR.FIL folder and choose "Rebuild Index".
This will cause any new files on the diskette to appear in the
window. Each new file has a "?" displayed beside it.
(9) You can right click on each new name and choose
"Add Song to Index" or you can right click on the
PIANODIR.FIL folder and choose "Rebuild Index".
The latter method will add all new song files to the
index.
(10) You can also give the diskette a title by right clicking
on the PIANODIR.FIL folder and choosing "Disk Title".
The diskette can be now be played on your Disklavier.
You can convert dozens of MIDI files to E-SEQ format
and copy as many as will fit onto the diskette and use
E-SEQ Explorer to rebuild the index file PIANODIR.FIL.
This capability makes it much easier to use than the
Giebler programs (which I have also used). There
are a number of other features such as song retitling
(right-click and choose Song Properties) that make the
E-SEQ Explorer program a very handy tool.
