I have a free utility on my web site that will allow you modify MIDI
velocities. It is called midimod2. I also have many other programs on
the site including a MIDI equalizer that you can use to scale
velocities by note. You can process whole folders of files unattended.
Re your other question, you may need to set the MIDI patch or
instrument definition to 0 or 1 to play the piano. The midimod2
program also allows you to do this, if I remember correctly. It has
been a while since I used (wrote) the program.
