PianoDisc Cd's

2006-12-12 by ISKI1@aol.com

I have a few PianoDisc Cd's that I bought on Ebay. Can anyone tell me why
some of them will play on a Yamaha Disklavier and some will not.
I know this is a Disklavier users group but we share the same interests and
some products are interchangeable so I thought someone may know the
difference in these disks.
CD # 12013 and CD 2009 play the piano part and accompaniment fine but CD
12011 and CD 12012 play the accompaniment but the there is a fax like tone
instead of a piano part.
PianoDisc has a lot of nice music but I can't figure out which CD's will
work and which will not.
Any help would be appreciated.

PianoDisc has changed their CD format at least twice over the past few
years, and Yamaha has not caught up. The Disklaviers I've tried only play
the oldest of the three formats.

The changes needed to support the two newer formats are rather trivial at
a technical level and could easily be supported by the Disklavier.

Unfortunately, there isn't a reliable way to tell before purchase which
PianoDisc CDs use the newer formats, but one hint you can look for is the
phrase "Silent Drive Plus" on the disc or packaging; any CDs bearing that
marking won't work on the Disklavier until Yamaha issues a firmware update
to support the very latest PianoDisc format.

Do you know if Yamaha plans to update their firmware to support these
formats?
You would think it would be a marketing advantage for Yamaha to be able to
play other products.

Thanks
Alan

I'm not affiliated with Yamaha in any way.

George Litterst might have a better idea, or perhaps someone at Yamaha
like Bill Brandom or Paul Calvin could field this question?

Hi Bill,

You had also mentioned back in mid-April of this year that you had hoped to have
all Disklavier manuals (including older models) produced as PDFs and available
on Yamaha's website within 60 days on then.

Is this still in the works?

Thanks,

Danny

Believe it or not, the newer PianoDisc CDs don't even work on PianoDisc systems unless BOTH the control boxes and the processors are updated! Sometimes I think the music is being copy protected right out of existence!

My guess on the pianodisc CD's that were bought off of ebay are
video sync discs, they are discs that have the video with background
and the piano is supposed to play that fax tone sound you hear, it
syncronizes the video with the piano. So unless you have your piano
hooked up to a tv correctly, those discs won't do you any good.

Hope that helps

Paul

Bill
Do you know if Yamaha is working on a software product comparable to
PianoDisc's New Creator software?
http://pianodisc.com/products/details.aspx?id=73561
It allows you to easily create special PianoCDs that combine the
audio CDs of major-name artists with special Creator disks. (Like
PianoSoft Smart Disks.)
It sure would be nice to combine all my PianoSoft Smart Disks with
the matching Cd and just pop in one disk. I have a few disk that I
have never been able to get synced. One being Chicagos greatest hits
00503497. It is a strange disk though as there are only 11 songs on
the smart disk and 12 on the CD. Not sure if a software program like
this would fix those problems.

Thanks for your input
Alan
