Disklavier Zones Out and Then Back In Again

Disklavier Zones Out and Then Back In Again

2007-03-12 by ralph_specht

Recently moved my Disklavier Upright to Retirement Home, which
involved storing the Disklavier for about 2 months.

I play the Disklavier thru the DSR1 Module to take advantage of the
MIDI Player, DD Floppies, and Tone Generator.

This Disklavier combination worked perfectly before the move.

When I moved the unit, I left the floppy in the Disklavier.

The following is occuring:

The Disklavier is playing perfectly, then all of a sudden it
zones out, stops playing for about 5 seconds and then starts to play
again.

The DSR1 appears to be working perfectly and during the piano
zone out, the Tone Generator continues to work.

I did notice on the Disklavier Display, the 01 for the floppy
turns off, a message displays on the Disklavier, and it stops
playing. Then the number 01 comes back on, and the title of the
floppy is displayed, and then the piano zones back in, and starts to
play. Also, I did notice the red LED below the floppy slot in on
continuously (don't know if this did this prior to the move). This
occurs randomly with multiple floppies in the DSR1.

It is almost like the floppy drive thinks that the diskette is
missing and then realizes, "Oh, it is here all along"

One question I have is that with the DSR1 is inserting a floppy
requried. I thought it was, but in previous posts some people have
indicated that they have gotten around bad floppy drives, by driving
the MIDI interface.

My thoughts on "tracking down" the issue are as follows:

1) Replacing the Floppy with the Disklavier and/or trying to clean
the Disklavier Diskette Drive

2) Opening up the Disklavier and making sure that the cable are
secure to the Floppy Disk Drive. Maybe loosened up during the move.

3) Replace the Floppy Drive with a new one.

Any thought/diagnosis help would be appreciated. This Forum is a
wealth of information and people willing to help and I will
appreciate any recommendations to assist me in solving this problem.

Thank you.

Is the floppy bumping and grinding during the zoned out period?
Can you play something from one of the "memory floppies" or even
copy the disk to one of those if you don't have anything stored there
(the first one usually has a few Yamaha test files in it if you
never wrote over it).

You should be able to play the memory songs or use the MIDI IN
without the floppy. The diskette is not necessary for this.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
