C3 with Mark III

C3 with Mark III

2007-06-30 by Jim

Hello everyone, I am looking at a fairly new (Dec 2005) Disklavier
piano. Being new to the Disklavier world, are there any specific
questions I should ask the seller? Are there any add-ons to the Mark
III that I could ask if they come with the piano or I should/could buy
in the future? Thanks, Jim

A DC3A is a pretty nice unit all by itself. I'm not sure of any real
options. You will
however wish to make sure you have the latest firmware (you can download
this off
the Yamaha website yourself) if you want to play the piano smart disks
(or whatever
they call the synchronized piano/CD things).

A quiet computer with a MIDI interface near the piano (mine is in a
little wheeled
rack I slide underneath) makes it easy to exploit the tons of digitized
piano rolls
out there.

Hi Jim,

Other than a good visual inspection, make sure there arent any dead
notes etc... Also check the serial number to see if its a "Grey
Market" japanese piano like my dc-1a. They are fine pianos but its a
little harder to get parts for a grey market one.

You can see a picture of my setup here:

If you play while others want quiet, you'll want a good pair of headphones
to plug into the silent system.

FYI
Not all Mark III's have the silent feature. This feature is a must have if
you plan to play smart disks, Pianosoft Plus or want to practice without
bothering others. It allows you to adjust the tone generator volume independent of
the piano volume.
