Linux runs on the control unit, it also runs on the tablet pc remote, and the handheld remote is a Sharp Zaraus (which I think also runs linux?).
But, none of them are open enough to install your own software...

· Can you download some kind of media player (itunes , real player, etc.) to it?
· This in order to play MP3, AAC or similar files thru the audio OUT?
