yet another MIDI type 1 to 0 converter

yet another MIDI type 1 to 0 converter

2008-06-19 by Spencer_Lists

Greetings Disklavier,

At the request of a (Pianodisc user group) group member, I have written a MIDI type 1 to 0 converter and have posted it to my web site for download. Not much testing so I am interested in feedback. There are plenty of other programs that do this, the best one being GNMIDI which does many other things and does them all faster than I could ever do with my programming resources. I am not trying to compete with other programs and will withdraw the program if there is any indication that it is reducing sales for GNMIDI which everyone who uses MIDI really should buy.

My program is different in a few respects. First, it is much slower but that is not a real problem on a modern computer. It has a simple graphical interface that allows you to batch process folders of files or to process individual files. This is probably the main advantage, it is a little less "dossy" than other programs. In addition, the default mode of operation attempts to retain information embedded in track names of the type 1 file when it is converted to type 0. There is often important information in these events and it is often lost in conversion. My program will clearly list the events along with the track number from which they were copied. Like other programs, mine just copies all MIDI events to a single track so there can be some data loss or confusion in conversion of complex (and especially in badly arranged) multi channel files.

The program link is the first in the available programs section on the following page: www.spencerserolls.com/files4download There is also a new graphical version of the gradual pedal to on off converter which can be useful for converting Disklavier files to play on the Pianodisc in case you want to share the files you recorded on your Disklavier with a Pianodisc owning friend. This one is farther down the page.
