Finale, MIDI, Disklavier MK II

2008-07-24 by pal8808

This is my first message ever in this or any other group, so forgive
me if I mess up any protocol. I recently bought a used MK II
disklavier, and I am having alot of fun with it. I teach piano, so I
composed a lesson on Finale, saved it as a MIDI file, put the MIDI
file on a floppy, and put it in my MK II. It played fine, but the
sustain pedal goes up and down in weird places. The Finale file was
composed with no pedal, and "Human Playback" was applied, which has no
pedal. I inspected the Finale file's MIDI parameter, and there is no
pedal, and there is no sustain when I play the MIDI file on my
computer. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Phil Mallory

Good morning, everyone.

Phil, the only way to know for sure if there is pedal data in the MIDI
file is to check the MIDI file using a MIDI editor or sequencer. If
you don't have such as program, feel free to email the file to me
directly (PianoBench@...)--not to the list. I'll let you know
what's in the file.

Regards,
PianoBench

To inspect the resulting MIDI file have you used a sequencer program like cakewalk or similar? ... -- Saludos Jorge Fernández ... To inspect the resulting

Greetings George,

I have a little utility on my download page called LIST MIDI EVENTS TO LOG PROGRAM it is about 2/3 of the way down the following page:
http://www.spencerserolls.com/Files4Download.html

you can list all MIDI events or trap notes and pedal controller so as to make the log file smaller. you get a text listing of all the events with descriptions as to what they are, the time they occur (absolute time or delta time) the channel and the value.

you can not modify events with this program but you do not need to have a sequencer to see what the events are. if you have a type 1 MIDI file, the log will list each track separately and this can be confusing so it is best to convert to type 1 first. there is another utility on the same page for doing this. i might have added convert to type 0 as an option to the list events program but don't remember.
