organizing the E-Comp files

organizing the E-Comp files

2008-09-28 by Spencer_Lists

Greetings Disklavier,

I have made MP3 files of the E-Comp MIDIS from 2002 2003 and 2004. I have added MP3 tags for title performer composer and date so that they display properly in Itunes or some other MP3 players. This makes it easy to select what you want to hear from either the player or from a folder with the relevant fields set to display. The batch of file is too large to share easily unless someone knows of a sensible way. It amounts to about 6 gigs. I can share the program that adds the titles along with the text file containing the information for each title. You would have to use Mark Fontana's Mid2PianoCD to create WAV files and then convert them to MP3 and run the program to add the tags. The text list can also be used to add text to MIDI files that will display in players such as VanBasco's player. For that you would need to use my titling program. The folder of titled MIDI files is much smaller, about 66 megs so that is easier to share if anyone wants it.

Greetings Disklavier,

I am posting the E-Comp files for use with VanBascos. It is about 30 megs. www.spencerserolls.com/E-Comp.zip should be there in a a half hour or so. These are the files with gradual pedaling. They can be converted to on off pedaling if necessary using my converter.

If people want to convert these to MP3 and want to add ID tags, I'll post the program to add them along with the text file that it uses. This program can also be used to add ID tags to MP3 files on a batch basis from a text listing. Let me know if you have any use for this.

Greetings londierowleik,

I posted the MIDIs to my web server. No problem with those. The service you mention would be OK if I didn't have a satellite connection. It would take years to upload the 10gigs or so. The option still exists to use Mid2PianoCD to make WAV files, then convert to MP3 and add tags with my tag adding program. I put all the files on two DVDs. If you or anyone wants to upload the files to a shared server, they are welcome but I think I am the only person who gives a hoot about this. I am not going to mail DVD to a bunch of people but will send one set for uploading.I have all the E-comps as MP3 on my computer which is wirelessly connected to the piano and I use Itunes. It is amazing. There are very good performances in this batch and I can make playlists etc.

Re[2]: [disklavier] organizing the E-Comp files

2008-09-29 by Spencer_Lists

Greetings uecker,

I only have 2002 through 2006. Did not know there was a 2008 batch. I remember that it was a bitch to get all the others as they had to be downloaded by performer. I will do that if necessary but would love to get the 2008 batch from you or someone who has already downloaded them. I want the ones with progressive pedaling but not the "pro" extra resolution. I have a script that lists out the text information in the MIDI files and can then edit this to add as tags. That part is pretty much straight forward. I have scripts to do nice little things like change performer names from First last to Last, first.

What I don't have is the hours to download all the files via my very slow satellite connection. Please someone, send me the 2008 batch.

If that is correct, would you eventually try to include 2008? I did download the zip file and look forward to trying it out. It should make listening to these wonderful performances much more fun. Thank you again. (If you do find a practical way to transmit the Mp3s, I might consider aquiring those as well.)

I will also try experimenting with your utilities. It may wait till the snow flies, but I'll let you know how it works.

Thanks,

Rick

Re[4]: [disklavier] organizing the E-Comp files

2008-09-30 by Spencer_Lists

Greetings Disklavier

I have all the 2008 e-comp files now and want to add title composer and performer information in a way that displays properly. The older files had this information as MIDI text events but the new ones only have minimal info. The detailed info is available on the web site but I don't want to spend a week typing it in.

Does anyone have a file of relevant data for all the 2008 E-comp MIDI files?

I downloaded all of the desired files except for 2-3 where I got a goofy message. I think I already blew away the zipped version, but I could rezip. But if you have a slow connection, how would I convey these to you?
