Hello Everyone, << Anyone out there know if there is software out there that can convert midi files or existing Disklavier files to SmartKey files? >> I don't have SmartKey on my Disklavier, so I have not been able to experiment with this. However, I believe that the SmartKey response can be turned on in any SmartKey-equipped Disklavier in one of the menus. This should make it possible to use the SmartKey feature with any SMF. It should be noted that what SmartKey does is to pause a sequence so that it waits for you to play a particular note in the piano track. If you don't play the note within a certain interval of time, the system moves the key to prompt you. Automatically-working SMFs which are intended for SmartKey have (I think) a SysEx message at the beginning to tell the Disklavier to turn on the SmartKey feature automatically. You can open an existing SmartKey song file in a sequencer and figure out which SysEx message is the one which does this. Also, you should note that in good-sounding SMFs which are intended for SmartKey, the notes in the piano track are advanced slightly in the sequence in order for the accompaniment to sound as though it is responding in the expected way when you play the trigger note. If the trigger notes were on the beat where the associated accompaniment notes reside, the accompaniment might play before you play the trigger note. Regards, PianoBench

Smartkey music sure is limited in variety. Only 11 diskettes are available in the PianoSoft catalog.
