Disklavier Web Page Day at Boston MOS

Hello Everyone, This past winter, I have been involved with the new Current Science & Technology Center of the Museum of Science in Boston. The Center's first exhibit, titled Playing with Music, has been on display since early February and will be taken down this coming week. As part of our effort to bring a level of interactivity to the exhibit, we had 3 "web page days" in which we recorded students on a Disklavier grand piano which was situated in the museum's lobby. After they recorded, the students' digital picture and MIDI file were uploaded to the museum's web site. By the time the kids walked down the corridor to the exhibit itself, they had become part of the exhibit and could find themselves on a kiosk attached to a concept piano called the Disklavier Pro 2000. The Pro 2000 would then play back their performances. Of course, all of this was accessible from home as well. The web pages are still in place on the museum's web site and may remain there for a few more weeks. In all, 88 kids recorded on the Disklavier on one of the 3 Saturdays in which we featured the web page project. We posted a total of 95 recordings on the web site. Anyone can get information about the exhibit at: www.mos.org/exhibits/digitalmusic/ There is a link on that page to the performances page, whose address is: http://www.mos.org/whats_happening/new_exhibits.html#music Of course, there is a great deal of quality variance in these performances. Some of the most interesting include: Peter D'elia - Black Key Etude-Chopin Mark Galinovsky - Nocturne Bethany Pietroniro - Sonata Opus 31 Number 1- Beethoven Daniel Rodriguez - Opus da funk - Horace Silver Jim Rome - Rachmaninoff Moment Musical in E minor Qian qian Tang - Prelude and Fugue - Bach Qian qian Tang - Serenade Rachmaninoff Regards, PianoBench
